Overview

From 1st October 2014, The Basic Food Hygiene Course and Refresher Course, a national level recognized and mandatory training and assessment require for food handler will now come under the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food and Beverage Framework. 

All certified food handlers are required to undergo the Refresher Food Hygiene course as per the following table:

Refresher Training Compliance
1st refresher training By 5th year from the Basic Food Hygiene Course (BFHC) passed date.
2nd  and subsequent refresher training Every 10th year from last Refresher course passed date.


Training will be conducted in either language medium, English and Mandarin respectively. 

 

Course Objective

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Follow Food & Beverage Safety and Hygiene Policies and Procedures and be able to apply them at their workplace. These include:

►    Practising good personal hygiene 

►    Using safe ingredients

►    Handling food safely

►    Storing food safely

►    Maintaining cleanliness of utensils, equipment and service / storage areas

 

Learning outcome

To refresh food handlers with the knowledge and application skills in Follow Food & Beverage Safety and Hygiene Policies and Procedures and can be able to apply them in their workplace. 

 

Assessment

At the end of the course, participants will be required to undergo an assessment for 1.5 hours which comprises of practical performance (PP), written assessment (MCQ) and oral questioning (OQ).

Participants who are certified competent will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). 

 

Target Audience

  • Existing Food Handlers (i.e. any individual who prepares food and beverage products in NEA-licensed eating establishments) 

    (NOTE: With effect from 1 April 2019, all food-related functions will come under the Singapore Food Agency, SFA).

3 hours training and 1.5 hours for assessment
